Friday the 13th Teaser Trailer

This trailer makes use of a lot of establishing shots. It only has a minute to show the viewers the setting and what sort of things to expect to find from this film. At the beginning the shots blend as they transition to the next shot. They have a slow pace as the couple look around. There is a lot of zooming out and panning so that the setting is shown and also the couple are always seen together. As the trailer gets more dramatic when the attack is occurring, the pace speeds up and the shots cut to the next one without the blending transition. They aren't as smooth, which causes fear and tension in the viewer. It is good that they evoke these feelings because this is just one minute of the film. Nearing the end there is a sudden black out for a dramatic effect, and then the camera zooms out to show the mask, and the film title fading in across the mask. The '13' in the title floods red which is associated with blood and horror. As you think this is the end it cuts to another shot of the girl running away, then a wide shot is used to show Jason walking towards her and the camera, and another dramatic black out is used again.
From this teaser trailer you can clearly tells that the genre is a horror film. You can tell this by the characters, the screams, dark colours and monotone soundtrack. As the camera zooms out to reveal the mask a heavy breathing is used which will scare the viewers as it is the only sound at that point.
I understood from this trailer that the storyline was about a serial killer that was on the loose, while a couple go away on a break, without realising the danger they were getting into. It was an easy trailer to follow and understand.
